Following the incredible success of Risborough’s Basket free delivery scheme that supported its residents with fresh produce and goods from local retailers during the COVID pandemic
in spring 2020, Princes Risborough Town Council has gone one step further in its ambitions, and has launched a new website – https://risboroughbasket.co.uk/ – to continue to support its community on an ongoing basis just in time for the Wave 2 lockdown.
The original Risborough Basket scheme, an innovative scheme from the Town Council, processed over 20,000 deliveries in 150 days and became a virtual shop window for retailers who were forced to close during lockdown. The new and improved Risborough Basket website enables its residents who live in a HP27 or HP14 postcode to support local businesses from a virtual High Street and add items from any participating shop into one basket before paying for their goods in one secure single transaction without having to phone or visit any local shops in person. If their order is placed before 2pm, goods will be collected and delivered free of charge on the same day by a Town Council employed Risborough Basket delivery driver.
With a second wave now underway and with and with lockdown restrictions in place, the Council’s Economic Regeneration team, headed up by Mayor & Chairman, Cllr Matthew Walsh were keen to see their pre-lockdown work and support of the town centre’s small independent businesses not be in vain.
Like the original Risborough Basket, the new version is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, and has been conceived and created by the Town Council with support provided by Retail Revival, a consultancy specialising in Retail regeneration. Business partners who have provided their services for free to build and develop the new Risborough Basket and support the community and retailers during these uncertain times include Profound for website build, and Mesh Marketing providing branding, creative and marketing consultancy services.
