About Us

Our History

In 2005 a survey showed that commercial bus services covering the residential areas of Princes Risborough and the surrounding villages had significantly reduced.

In 2006 a voluntary body called Risborough Area Community Action (RACA) – now Risborough Area Partnership (RAP) – conducted a Local Travel Survey to determine how best to address the problem of declining bus services.

-RACA distributed 3000 questionnaires and 65% of respondents said that they would use a community bus service if made available.

A project group, set up to examine the feasibility of a community bus service, confirmed the demand suggested by RACA’s survey, identified potential routes covering residential areas poorly served by commercial bus services, determined the type of service best suited to the task and an appropriate type of bus, and identified funding opportunities and methods of recruiting volunteer drivers.

Defining the Scheduled Routes

The outcome is the RACB service you see today. Three daily scheduled routes begun in July 2010 cover Princes Risborough, Monks Risborough and Longwick. Two more routes established in 2011 cover Speen, Bledlow Village & Bledlow Ridge and in April 2013 we added a route to Great and Little Kimble. Routes are constantly under review in order to meet the expanding demand for our services.

With its ease of access, the service has grown in popularity.

We carried just 70 passengers in the first week of service; pre-Covid we were carrying up to 400 passengers a week.

      Outings

In addition to scheduled services, monthly outings are run to places of interest.

Most weekday evenings and weekends (after 1:30 pm on Saturdays) the 15-seater bus is available to individuals and not-for-profit organisations.

Contact our coordinator on 07941 963097, or use the Contact Us form.

Our 30 volunteer drivers, ably assisted by our coordinator Debbie, ensure the success of our operations. They each drive the bus on average two or three times per month; if you would like to join the team please visit the support us page.

We can take one non-powered wheelchair on the bus. See the services page for more details.

We are a Registered Charity – No. 1136169 and a Company Limited by Guarantee – No. 7150185.

A seven-member Board of Trustees sets our policies which are implemented by an eleven-member Management Committee, all but one of which is a volunteer driver.
